SUMMARY:Amarillo – Specialized DWI Training “Don’t Fear the Darkside”
DESCRIPTION:Texas Drug Recognition Expert Program Presents \nthe Specialized DWI Training Featuring:\n “Don’t Fear the Darkside”\n  \nA free two-day course designed for law enforcement officers.  During this course\, participants will receive training on how to testify under direct and cross examination.  This course includes application scenarios where participants will be evaluated by instructors. \nDay One:\nAttire:  Collared shirt\, slacks or tactical pants \n\n“Hear me now & remember what I said”\nDirect & cross examination testifying\nWet lab and SFST review\nReport writing\nBlood search warrants\nProsecution theme development\nRoadside interviewing\nRe-establishing rapport post arrest\nReport writing exercises\n\nDay Two:\nAttire:  Class A uniform or business suit \n\nTrial advocacy\n\nThe class will put together everything learned on day one.  Time for the participant to get an opportunity to testify in court through direct and cross examination exercises. \n  \nEligible for 16 hours TCOLE credit. \n  \nThe course is presented by Integrated Impaired Driving Solutions\, LLC and is FREE to all Texas peace officers.  The training is made possible through a grant from the Texas Department of Transportation\n  \nConference Schedule:\nDay 1: 8 am to 5 pm \nDay 2: 8 am to 5 pm

SUMMARY:Edinburg – Specialized DWI Training “The Medical Foundations of Visual Systems Testing”
DESCRIPTION:The Texas Drug Recognition Expert Program\n\nPresents \nThe Medical Foundations of \nVisual Systems Testing\n \nPresenter:  Dr. Karl Citek\, O.D.\n  \nMany courts will not qualify a DRE as an expert unless he or she has received training from a medical professional. This course will provide the medical and scientific foundations of the various components of the DRE protocol\, including the eye tests\, vital signs and psychophysical and divided attention tasks. Common medical conditions\, rule-outs and alternative explanations for observed signs will be discussed. The course will include numerous videos\, classroom demonstrations and an alcohol workshop. \nThis program is intended for officers who are Certified Drug Recognition Experts (DREs)\, SFST Instructors\, and experienced DWI officers. \nTopics Include: \n\nAnatomy and physiology of the eye and the central nervous system\nDevelopment and control of eye responses\nUse and abuse of drugs\nEffects of drugs on the body\, the eyes and perception\nEffects of medical and environmental conditions\nTesting of eye signs\nLegal aspects of testing at the traffic stop and the DRE evaluation\nTrial preparation\n\n\n  \nEligible for 24 hours TCOLE credit.
